LKB1 siRNA is a small interfering RNA (siRNA) designed to silence the expression of the Liver Kinase B1 (LKB1) gene, also known as STK11 (Serine/Threonine Kinase 11). LKB1 is a master upstream kinase that phosphorylates and activates AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK), a central regulator of cellular energy metabolism, growth, and polarity. By reducing LKB1 protein levels, LKB1 siRNA inhibits the LKB1/AMPK signaling axis, which is often investigated in the context of cancer cell survival, apoptosis, and autophagy. In research settings, such as studies on head and neck cancer, LKB1 siRNA has been used to demonstrate that LKB1 is required for certain types of cell death induced by the silencing of other proteins like β-catenin. While primarily used as a research tool to study tumor suppressor functions and metabolic stress responses, the targeting of LKB1 via RNA interference represents a strategy for modulating pathways involved in tumorigenesis and therapy resistance.
