LLGL2 small interfering RNA (siRNA) is a synthetic double-stranded RNA molecule designed to silence the expression of the LLGL2 (Lethal giant larvae homolog 2) gene through the RNA interference (RNAi) pathway. LLGL2 is a cell polarity protein that plays a critical role in maintaining epithelial cell structure and asymmetric cell division. In research settings, particularly concerning epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC), LLGL2 siRNA is utilized to investigate the protein's function as a tumor suppressor. Studies have shown that silencing LLGL2 leads to increased cell migration and invasion by disrupting its interaction with ACTN1 (Alpha-actinin-1), which normally regulates cytoskeletal remodeling and actin filament bundling. While primarily used as a functional genomics tool in preclinical research, siRNAs targeting cell polarity factors represent an experimental category of RNA-based therapeutics.
