LMT-89 is an intensive multi-agent chemotherapy protocol primarily utilized for the treatment of lymphoblastic lymphoma (LL). It is a modified version of the LMT-81 protocol, which was itself a modification of the LSA2L2 regimen originally developed for pediatric non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. The LMT-89 regimen incorporates high-dose methotrexate and is structured into induction, consolidation, and maintenance phases using multiple cytotoxic agents. Clinical studies have demonstrated that LMT-89 is highly effective in patients with advanced LL, particularly those without bone marrow involvement, achieving high complete remission and survival rates. However, it has shown limited efficacy in treating T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (T-ALL).
