**LMWH-LA** is an investigational amphiphilic covalent conjugate of low-molecular-weight heparin and lipoic acid developed as a reactive-oxygen-species-responsive nanocarrier for atherosclerosis. In the reported preclinical system, LMWH-LA self-assembled with curcumin into LLC nanoparticles; the low-molecular-weight-heparin shell was intended to bind P-selectin on plaque endothelium and inhibit monocyte recruitment, while lipoic acid oxidation promoted hydrophilic-hydrophobic conversion and cargo release in the oxidative plaque microenvironment. The formulation showed anti-atherosclerotic activity in apolipoprotein E-deficient mouse models, but LMWH-LA itself is not an approved drug or marketed product.
