Drug intelligence / Profile preview
LNA-anti-miR-21 is a locked nucleic acid (LNA)-modified antisense oligonucleotide designed to target and inhibit microRNA-21 (miR-21). By hybridizing with high affinity and stability to mature miR-21, LNA-anti-miR-21 prevents it from interacting with its target mRNAs, thereby restoring the expression of protective downstream genes such as PTEN (phosphatase and tensin homolog). In preclinical models, LNA-anti-miR-21 has been investigated for its therapeutic potential in chronic kidney disease (CKD), Alport syndrome, diabetic nephropathy, ischemic heart failure, and various cancers (such as melanoma, colorectal cancer, and glioblastoma). To overcome delivery challenges to specific cell types like podocytes, researchers have explored exosome-mediated delivery of LNA-anti-miR-21 to enhance intracellular uptake and functional efficacy.
