Overview

LNA-i-miR-NC is a locked nucleic acid (LNA)-based antisense oligonucleotide with a phosphorothioate (PS) modified backbone that serves as a negative control (scrambled sequence) in experiments evaluating the activity of LNA-i-miR-221, an inhibitor targeting miR-221. LNA-i-miR-NC does not target any specific microRNA but replicates the chemical structure of LNA-i-miR-221, allowing for assessment of nonspecific effects of the LNA technology or oligonucleotide chemistry in vitro and in vivo. It is typically administered systemically to animal models as a control alongside the active inhibitor to differentiate between sequence-specific and nonspecific effects of LNA-based therapeutics[2].
