Drug intelligence / Profile preview
LNP-HIV-BMEP is a lipid nanoparticle (LNP)-formulated mRNA vaccine candidate designed to initiate and guide broadly neutralizing antibody (bNAb) responses against HIV-1. Developed by the National Centre for Biotechnology (CNB) and the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), the vaccine encodes the HIV-BMEP (B-cell Multiepitopic Protein) multi-epitope immunogen. This immunogen incorporates the recognition footprints of bNAbs targeting four highly conserved sites on the HIV-1 Envelope (Env) glycoprotein: the V1V2 glycan apex, the CD4 binding site, the fusion peptide, and the membrane-proximal external region (MPER). LNP-HIV-BMEP is designed to activate germline bNAb B-cell precursors. In preclinical studies, it is evaluated as a priming immunogen in a heterologous prime-boost regimen followed by a modified virus-like particle (VLP)-forming Modified Vaccinia virus Ankara (MVA) boost (MVA-ConCv5-KIKO-GPN) to elicit coordinated humoral and cellular immunity.
