LNP-vaxD18 is an experimental multivalent mRNA-lipid nanoparticle (LNP) vaccine candidate designed for the prevention of Lyme disease, caused by the bacterium *Borrelia burgdorferi*. Developed by researchers at the University of Pennsylvania, including the laboratory of Drew Weissman, the vaccine utilizes mRNA technology to encode multiple antigens derived from the *Borrelia burgdorferi* spirochete. By encapsulating these mRNA transcripts in lipid nanoparticles, the vaccine facilitates the delivery and expression of bacterial proteins within host cells, thereby eliciting a robust and broad-spectrum immune response. This multivalent approach is specifically engineered to address the antigenic diversity of *Borrelia* species and provide more comprehensive protection than traditional single-antigen vaccine candidates.
