Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Locacorten Tar** is a topical fixed-dose dermatologic combination containing **flumethasone pivalate**, **salicylic acid**, and **coal tar**. Flumethasone pivalate is a moderately potent topical glucocorticoid that suppresses cutaneous inflammation and pruritus; salicylic acid provides keratolytic and scale-removing activity; and coal tar has keratoplastic, antipruritic, and antiproliferative effects on hyperproliferative skin. The ointment has been used for psoriasis, including psoriasis vulgaris and severe erythrodermic disease treated with occlusion, as well as corticosteroid-responsive inflammatory dermatoses such as seborrheic dermatitis, contact dermatitis, lichen planus, and localized neurodermatitis.
