Locobase

Locobase is a high-lipid emollient and barrier-repair cream designed for the management of very dry, sensitive, and diseased skin, particularly in conditions such as psoriasis and atopic dermatitis. The formulation is characterized by a high lipid content (typically around 70%) and includes skin-identical lipids such as ceramides, cholesterol, and free fatty acids. These components work by creating an occlusive layer on the skin surface to reduce transepidermal water loss (TEWL) and by integrating into the stratum corneum to restore the skin's natural barrier function. Originally developed by Yamanouchi (which later merged into Astellas), the brand is frequently used in clinical research as a baseline therapy or supportive treatment to improve skin plasticity and hydration. It is currently marketed in various regions by companies including Karo Healthcare.
