Loganic acid is an iridoid glycoside that exhibits neuroprotective properties, particularly in the context of Parkinson's disease. It acts by inhibiting the NLRP3 inflammasome signaling pathway, which reduces microglial activation and the release of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as IL-1β and IL-18. In experimental models, loganic acid has been shown to alleviate bidirectional olfactory-brain dysfunction, promote neurogenesis, and rescue dopaminergic neurons. It also appears to regulate cellular redox homeostasis and support neuronal survival by targeting the NLRP3 inflammasome pathway in both cellular and animal models.
