Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Lomatogonium rotatum extract is a research-stage botanical extract derived from the dried whole herb of *Lomatogonium rotatum* (L.) Fries ex Nym (known as Habirigen Digda in Mongolian), a bitter herb traditionally used in Mongolian folk medicine. It is traditionally utilized to treat liver and gallbladder diseases, and acts as a hypoglycemic, lipid-lowering, and weight-reduction agent. Preclinical studies in rodent models have demonstrated that the extract can alleviate type 2 diabetes mellitus, hyperlipidemia, obesity, and acute liver injury. Its active components, which include swertiamarin, sweroside, hesperetin, coumarin, and xanthones, are thought to activate bitter taste receptors and modulate serum metabolites, leading to increased insulin and GLP-1 release, and reduced blood glucose and lipid levels. There are currently no clinical trials or commercial developers associated with this extract, with research primarily conducted by academic institutions in China and Mongolia.
