lomtegovimab

Lomtegovimab (BI 767551) is a neutralizing monoclonal antibody developed by Boehringer Ingelheim in collaboration with the German Center for Infection Research (DZIF) and academic partners for the treatment and prevention of COVID-19. Derived from the B cells of recovered patients, it targets the SARS-CoV-2 virus to prevent viral entry into host cells. The antibody was uniquely designed for administration via both intravenous infusion and inhalation, with the latter intended to provide localized, fast-acting protection directly in the respiratory tract. Although it reached Phase II/III clinical trials for non-hospitalized patients with mild to moderate COVID-19, its development was discontinued due to the changing pandemic landscape, including the success of vaccination programs and the emergence of viral variants.
