Overview

Lomustine and teniposide are used in combination for the treatment of various cancers, including brain tumors and Hodgkin's disease. Lomustine is an alkylating agent of the nitrosourea type that interferes with DNA and RNA function, while teniposide is a semi-synthetic derivative of podophyllotoxin. The combination has been studied particularly for brain tumors, where teniposide appears to have preferential uptake by brain-tumor tissue compared with disease-free brain tissue. However, this combination has been associated with an increased risk of secondary leukemia in patients treated for Hodgkin's disease.
