LON002 is a sublingual spray formulation of artemether, a semisynthetic derivative of artemisinin originally used as an antimalarial, being repurposed for the treatment of advanced solid tumors. Developed by LondonPharma Ltd., the drug utilizes a 20mg per spray delivery system designed for rapid absorption. Its mechanism of action involves the interaction with intracellular heme molecules to generate reactive oxygen species (ROS), leading to selective oxidative stress and apoptosis in cancer cells. Additionally, LON002 is thought to modulate various signaling pathways and proteins associated with tumor cell proliferation, angiogenesis, and metastasis. It is currently being evaluated in clinical trials for patients with advanced solid tumors who have exhausted standard therapeutic options, including long-term extension studies to assess safety and efficacy.
