Overview

Loncipoetin alfa (HS-10370) is a long-acting erythropoietin-stimulating agent (ESA) developed by Hansoh Pharmaceutical in collaboration with clinical centers such as Ruijin Hospital. It is a recombinant human erythropoietin (rhEPO) derivative produced in Chinese Hamster Ovary (CHO) cells and subsequently modified through PEGylation (conjugation with a methoxy polyethylene glycol derivative). This modification significantly extends the protein's circulating half-life, allowing for a reduced dosing frequency of once every four weeks compared to the multiple weekly doses required for conventional epoetin alfa. Loncipoetin alfa acts as a selective agonist of the erythropoietin receptor (EPOR), stimulating the proliferation and differentiation of erythroid progenitor cells in the bone marrow to increase red blood cell production. It is primarily being developed for the treatment of anemia associated with chronic kidney disease (CKD) in both dialysis-dependent and non-dialysis-dependent adult patients.
