Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Longmu Tang is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) herbal formula primarily used in China for the treatment of atopic dermatitis (AD), especially in children. It has been prescribed since 2008 and is available as a granule formulation. The formula is designed to exert anti-inflammatory effects, improve skin symptoms, and enhance quality of life for patients with AD[1]. Mechanistically, it appears to reduce serum levels of inflammatory cytokines such as immunoglobulin E (IgE), tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), interleukin-1 (IL-1), and interleukin-6 (IL-6)[1]. While its precise composition may vary by manufacturer or region, it generally contains mineral-based ingredients like Dragon Bone ("Long Gu") and Oyster Shell ("Mu Li"), which are traditionally believed to calm the spirit and anchor Yang energy[2]. Unlike other similarly named formulas such as Chai Hu Jia Long Gu Mu Li Tang or Gui Zhi Jia Long Gu Mu Li Tang—which are broader classical TCM prescriptions—Longmu Tang specifically refers here to a modern TCM product developed for pediatric atopic dermatitis.
