LongShengZhi

LongShengZhi (LSZ) is a traditional Chinese medicine capsule approved in China for the treatment of ischemic stroke and other cerebrovascular diseases. It is an optimized herbal formulation based on the classical Buyang Huanwu decoction and contains 12 natural medicines with 19 main active ingredients. LSZ exerts neuroprotective, anti-inflammatory, antioxidative, and anti-apoptotic effects. Mechanistically, it downregulates matrix metalloproteinase 2/9 (MMP-2/9), vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), and nuclear factor kappa-B (NF-κB), while upregulating microtubule-associated protein-2 (MAP-2) and growth-associated protein-43 (GAP-43). These actions are mediated via p38 MAPK and HIF-1α signaling pathways.
