Longxuetongluo (LTC) is a pharmaceutical capsule derived from the total phenolic compounds of Chinese dragon’s blood (the red resin of Dracaena cochinchinensis). It is approved in China for the treatment of ischemic stroke during the convalescence stage. The main active ingredients are phenolic compounds such as loureirin A and loureirin C. Mechanistically, LTC exerts neuroprotective effects by inhibiting neuroinflammation—specifically suppressing nitric oxide (NO) and prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) production through downregulation of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), as well as reducing pro-inflammatory cytokines like IL-1β, IL-6, and TNF-α. Metabolomics studies indicate that LTC modulates glycerophospholipid and sphingolipid metabolism pathways relevant to neuronal protection after ischemic injury[1][3][5]. It also demonstrates antiatherosclerotic effects[4].
