Lonicera japonica, commonly known as Japanese honeysuckle or Jinyinhua, is a prominent medicinal plant in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) valued for its antipyretic, anti-inflammatory, and detoxifying properties. It contains a diverse array of bioactive compounds, including chlorogenic acid, flavonoids (such as luteoloside and lonicerin), and polysaccharides. Research indicates its potential in treating various conditions, including type 2 diabetes, acute lung injury, heart failure, and certain cancers (e.g., thyroid cancer and acute myeloid leukemia). Its mechanisms involve the modulation of inflammatory pathways (NF-κB, Keap1/Nrf2), oxidative stress (STAT3/PGC-1α), and gut microbiota. It is also widely used as a food-medicine resource and a natural preservative.
