Lopain

Lopain (MTX-071) is an investigational, highly concentrated resinous formulation of lidocaine developed for the treatment of chronic pain associated with knee osteoarthritis. Administered via a single intra-articular injection, the drug is designed to provide long-lasting analgesia by slowly releasing lidocaine into the joint space. Lidocaine acts as a non-selective voltage-gated sodium channel blocker, inhibiting the initiation and conduction of nerve impulses by decreasing the neuronal membrane's permeability to sodium ions. This mechanism effectively reduces chronic pain by dampening nociceptive signaling within the joint. The product was originally developed by Mestex AG, which was acquired by Grünenthal in 2021 to strengthen its pain management pipeline.
