Overview

LOPAP (Lonomia obliqua Prothrombin Activator Protease) is a recombinant protease derived from the venom of the *Lonomia obliqua* caterpillar, currently under development by Biolab Pharma. It functions as a potent prothrombin activator that converts prothrombin into active thrombin, bypassing the requirement for several traditional coagulation factors such as Factor V. By generating thrombin directly at the site of application, LOPAP facilitates the conversion of fibrinogen to fibrin, promoting rapid clot formation and hemostasis. It is primarily being investigated as a topical hemostatic agent for the management of bleeding associated with wounds and surgical injuries.
