Lopinavir, ritonavir, and nevirapine are antiretroviral drugs used in combination for the treatment of HIV-1 infection. Lopinavir is a highly potent and selective inhibitor of the HIV-1 protease enzyme, which is essential for the production of mature, infective virus particles. Ritonavir also acts as a protease inhibitor but is primarily used to boost lopinavir levels by inhibiting its metabolism via CYP3A enzymes. Nevirapine is a non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NNRTI) that binds directly to reverse transcriptase and blocks RNA-dependent and DNA-dependent DNA polymerase activities by causing a disruption of the enzyme's catalytic site. This triple combination suppresses plasma viral load and enhances immunological status in patients with HIV-1 infection[2][5][6][8].
