Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Loquat leaf extract is a botanical extract derived from the leaves of *Eriobotrya japonica*, a subtropical fruit tree native to East Asia. Rich in **triterpenoids** (notably **ursolic acid**, **corosolic acid**, and oleanolic acid), **phenolic compounds**, **flavonoids**, and polysaccharides, the extract exhibits a wide range of biological activities, including anti-inflammatory, antidiabetic, antioxidant, anti-cancer, and hepatoprotective effects[1][2][4][5][6][8]. Mechanistically, major constituents such as ursolic acid and corosolic acid contribute to anti-inflammatory and antidiabetic effects by inhibiting 11β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase 1 (*11β-HSD1*) and improving insulin secretion and sensitivity[1][2]. Loquat leaf extract also shows the ability to scavenge free radicals and suppress the progression of certain cancer cell lines[1][2][5][6]. Modern clinical studies have focused on its effects in metabolic health, particularly in supporting insulin secretion, muscle function, and as adjunct support for diabetes and cancer[1][2][5][7]. The extract is also used in various forms for herbal traditional medicine—especially in East Asia—for respiratory ailments, metabolic disorders, and skin diseases[1][2][7][8].
