Overview

Loramyc is a branded, extended-release muco-adhesive buccal tablet formulation of the imidazole antifungal miconazole, developed using Lauriad technology for once-daily local treatment of oropharyngeal candidiasis in immunocompromised patients, including those with HIV infection or head and neck cancer receiving radiotherapy.[2][4][10][18][20] By releasing miconazole directly onto the oral and oropharyngeal mucosa over 24 hours, Loramyc achieves high local salivary concentrations with minimal systemic exposure, providing efficacy comparable to systemic azoles while reducing systemic adverse effects and drug–drug interactions.[2][3][20] The drug was originally developed by BioAlliance Pharma (now Onxeo) and Vectans Pharma and has been approved in multiple regions (Europe, Japan, US under the brand Oravig) as a targeted topical therapy for oropharyngeal candidiasis in immunodepressed patients.[2][5][8][14][18][20]
