Lorelin

**Lorelin** is a brand name for leuprorelin acetate, a synthetic gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) analogue administered as a depot injection. It acts as a GnRH receptor agonist, initially stimulating luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) release but leading to receptor downregulation with continuous use, resulting in suppressed gonadotropin secretion, hypogonadism, and reduced sex steroid levels (testosterone in males, estradiol in females). Developed as a peptide-based hormone therapy, it is primarily indicated for prostate cancer, premenopausal breast cancer, and endometriosis, with dosing such as 3.75 mg subcutaneously every 4 weeks; common side effects include hot flashes, injection site pain, mood changes, and bone density loss.[4][1]
