losartan

Losartan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) used primarily to treat high blood pressure (hypertension), reduce the risk of stroke in patients with hypertension and left ventricular hypertrophy, and manage kidney disease in people with type 2 diabetes and a history of hypertension. It works by selectively blocking the binding of angiotensin II to the AT1 receptor, preventing vasoconstriction and aldosterone secretion, which leads to relaxation of blood vessels, reduced blood pressure, decreased workload on the heart, and renal protection. Losartan is available as an oral tablet or suspension.
