Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Loteba is a fixed-dose combination ophthalmic suspension containing loteprednol etabonate, a corticosteroid, and tobramycin, an aminoglycoside antibiotic. Developed by Navana Pharmaceuticals, it is indicated for the treatment of steroid-responsive inflammatory ocular conditions where a superficial bacterial infection or risk of infection exists, such as bacterial conjunctivitis. Loteprednol etabonate acts as an anti-inflammatory agent by binding to the glucocorticoid receptor and inducing phospholipase A2 inhibitory proteins (lipocortins), thereby reducing the synthesis of inflammatory mediators like prostaglandins and leukotrienes. Tobramycin provides bactericidal activity by binding to the bacterial 30S ribosomal subunit, disrupting protein synthesis in susceptible Gram-negative and Gram-positive pathogens.
