Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Lotriga** is a prescription omega-3-derived drug containing highly concentrated and purified ethyl esters of eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA-E) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA-E), specifically omega-3-acid ethyl esters 90. Developed by Pronova BioPharma and exclusively licensed to Takeda Pharmaceutical for Japan, it lowers triglycerides in patients with hyperlipidemia and hypertriglyceridemia. Administered orally as 2g granular capsules once daily after meals (up to 4g/day), Phase 3 trials in Japan showed it equivalent or superior to EPA monotherapy in triglyceride reduction, with a comparable safety profile including diarrhea as the main ADR.[1][2][3][5]
