Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Low-dose vaginal estrogen in Vanicream Lite refers to a specific compounded formulation of either 10 micrograms of estriol or 10 micrograms of estradiol valerate in 0.5 grams of Vanicream Lite base. Developed for a Phase 3 randomized controlled trial led by Maire Mac Bride at the Mayo Clinic, these formulations are intended for the treatment of atrophic vaginitis in postmenopausal women. The treatment strategy utilizes a dose significantly lower (one-tenth) than standard commercial preparations and employs application to the vaginal introitus to provide local symptomatic relief while minimizing systemic estrogen exposure and potential side effects.
