Overview

Low THC marijuana refers to marijuana cigarettes containing a specific low concentration of delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), in this context 1.98% THC, provided by the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) for clinical research. It was evaluated by the New York State Psychiatric Institute for its analgesic properties in daily marijuana smokers using the Cold-Pressor Test (CPT) model. THC, the primary psychoactive constituent, acts as a partial agonist at the CB1 and CB2 cannabinoid receptors. CB1 receptors are primarily located in the central nervous system and mediate the analgesic and psychoactive effects, while CB2 receptors are found mainly in the immune system.
