LOX siRNA refers to small interfering RNA molecules designed to silence the expression of the lysyl oxidase (LOX) gene or members of the lipoxygenase (LOX) family, such as 5-LOX (ALOX5), 12-LOX (ALOX12), or 15-LOX (ALOX15). In the context of lysyl oxidase, these siRNAs are investigated for their ability to reduce extracellular matrix remodeling, fibrosis, and vascular leakage, with potential applications in diabetic retinopathy and various cancers where LOX overexpression promotes metastasis and epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT). In the context of lipoxygenases, LOX siRNAs are used to study and potentially treat inflammatory conditions, atherosclerosis, and oxidative stress by inhibiting the production of leukotrienes and other lipid mediators. These molecules function by inducing the degradation of target mRNA, thereby preventing the translation of the corresponding enzyme.
