This is a combination of two pharmaceutical agents: loxapine and midazolam. Loxapine is a typical antipsychotic primarily used in the treatment of schizophrenia and acute agitation. It acts mainly as a dopamine D2 receptor antagonist and also blocks serotonin 5-HT2 receptors, though its precise mechanism is not fully established[1][4][5]. Midazolam is a short-acting benzodiazepine with sedative, anxiolytic, muscle relaxant, anticonvulsant, hypnotic, and amnesic properties. It acts as a positive allosteric modulator at the GABA(A) receptor complex[3]. The combination may be used in clinical settings for rapid control of acute agitation or severe behavioral disturbances where both sedation and antipsychotic effects are desired[2][4]. The use together increases risk of CNS depression due to additive effects on sedation[7].
