Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Loxona is a transdermal patch formulation of loxoprofen, a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) belonging to the propionic acid derivative group, developed by Dae Hwa Pharmaceutical. It is marketed as the first domestic transdermal patch for loxoprofen in South Korea and is indicated for the treatment of pain and inflammation. Loxoprofen functions as a prodrug that is metabolized into its active trans-alcohol form, which inhibits cyclooxygenase (COX) enzymes, thereby reducing the synthesis of prostaglandins. The transdermal delivery system of Loxona offers a topical alternative to oral administration, which may potentially reduce systemic complications such as gastrointestinal irritation, cardiovascular risks, and renal side effects associated with oral NSAID use.
