Overview
Loxonin Tape is a transdermal patch formulation of loxoprofen sodium hydrate, a prodrug-type nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) in the propionic acid derivative group. Developed and manufactured by Lead Chemical Co., Ltd., it works by inhibiting cyclooxygenase (COX) enzymes, which reduces the synthesis of prostaglandins responsible for inflammation and pain. The patch is applied once daily to the affected area, allowing the drug to be absorbed through the skin and converted into its active trans-OH metabolite. This localized delivery system is approved for treating osteoarthritis, muscle pain (myalgia), and post-traumatic swelling and pain, offering a therapeutic alternative that may reduce the systemic side effects associated with oral NSAID administration, such as gastrointestinal, cardiovascular, and renal complications.
