Overview

This is an autologous dendritic cell-based vaccine developed by Loyola University for the treatment of relapsed or refractory advanced ovarian cancer. The vaccine is prepared by harvesting a patient's own monocytes via leukapheresis, which are then differentiated into dendritic cells in a laboratory setting. These dendritic cells are pulsed (loaded) with either autologous tumor lysate or specific tumor-associated peptides, including Mucin 1 (MUC1) and Wilms tumor 1 (WT1), often in conjunction with Keyhole Limpet Hemocyanin (KLH) as an adjuvant. The resulting personalized immunotherapy is injected into the patient's inguinal lymph nodes to prime the immune system to recognize and destroy cancer cells expressing the targeted antigens. The vaccine has been evaluated in Phase 2 clinical trials for patients with advanced ovarian cancer.
