Drug intelligence / Profile preview
LP-50 is an investigational intravesical (bladder-administered) formulation of pembrolizumab, developed by Lipella Pharmaceuticals. It is designed for the treatment of non-muscle invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC). The drug utilizes a proprietary liposomal delivery system to locally administer pembrolizumab directly into the bladder, aiming to maximize anti-tumor efficacy while minimizing systemic toxicity commonly associated with intravenous checkpoint inhibitors. Pembrolizumab is a monoclonal antibody that inhibits programmed cell death protein 1 (PD-1), thereby enhancing immune-mediated tumor cell killing. Preclinical data have demonstrated tumor size reduction in animal models using this approach[3].
