LP-590 is an investigational, orally bioavailable small molecule designed to treat autoimmune and inflammatory disorders by selectively modulating the CD28 costimulatory pathway. Developed by Lapix Therapeutics, it functions as a selective antagonist of T-cell-specific surface glycoprotein CD28. By blocking the interaction between CD28 on T cells and its B7 ligands (CD80 and CD86) on antigen-presenting cells, LP-590 inhibits the activation of pathogenic effector T cells. Simultaneously, the molecule is designed to promote the expansion and stability of regulatory T cells (Tregs), thereby restoring immune homeostasis and tolerance without inducing broad immunosuppression. LP-590 is currently being evaluated in Phase 1 clinical trials for the treatment of Multiple Sclerosis.
