Overview

LPA5 siRNA is a small interfering RNA (siRNA) designed to silence the expression of the lysophosphatidic acid receptor 5 (LPA5), a G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR). Research presented by the University of Tennessee and Lexicon Pharmaceuticals indicates that LPA5 plays a complex role in melanoma progression. In B16 melanoma cell lines, siRNA-mediated knockdown of LPA5 was found to increase in vitro invasion, suggesting that the receptor may normally inhibit certain invasive pathways in these specific cells. Conversely, in vivo studies using LPA5 knockout mice showed a significant reduction in lung metastasis, suggesting that LPA5 signaling in the tumor microenvironment or stromal tissues is a potential target for preventing cancer spread.
