Overview

Lpc-Ether is an experimental small molecule belonging to the class of ether-linked lysophosphatidylcholines. Its structure consists of a glycerophosphocholine moiety attached to a fatty acyl chain via an ether bond, with the chemical formula C26H57NO6P. Lpc-Ether acts as an inhibitor of phospholipase A2 and has been shown to modulate cardiac ion channels, specifically increasing the current through the human ether-a-go-go-related gene (HERG) potassium channel, which plays a critical role in cardiac repolarization. Ether-linked lyso-phosphatidylcholines are also precursors to platelet activating factor (PAF), which is important for inflammatory reactions and central nervous system function. Elevated levels have been observed in certain disease states such as Alzheimer’s disease[1][2][4][5].
