Drug intelligence / Profile preview
LPCN 1029 is an investigational oral testosterone undecanoate (TU) formulation developed by Lipocine Inc. for the treatment of male hypogonadism. It utilizes the proprietary Lip'ral technology, a lipid-based drug delivery system designed to improve the bioavailability of testosterone undecanoate and reduce the significant food effect associated with traditional oral testosterone therapies. As a prodrug, testosterone undecanoate is converted into testosterone, which then acts as an agonist at the androgen receptor to restore physiological hormone levels. LPCN 1029 successfully completed Phase 2 clinical testing, demonstrating its ability to achieve eugonadal testosterone levels in hypogonadal men with twice-daily dosing. However, the developer prioritized the advancement of other pipeline candidates, such as LPCN 1021 (TLANDO) and LPCN 1111 (TLANDO XR), for commercialization.
