Drug intelligence / Profile preview
LPCN 1107 is a **novel oral formulation of hydroxyprogesterone caproate** (HPC), in development for the **prevention of recurrent preterm birth** in women with singleton pregnancy. It is designed as a potential oral alternative to current injectable forms of HPC, with the benefits of eliminating injection-associated pain and site reactions, as well as reducing the need for weekly clinic visits. LPCN 1107 is engineered using Lipocine’s proprietary oral solubilization technology to overcome the poor oral bioavailability of standard HPC. Mechanistically, it acts as a **progestin**, modulating the progesterone receptor and exerting effects important for maintaining pregnancy. HPC is the only drug previously approved for prevention of recurrent preterm birth, but only in injectable form. LPCN 1107 has received orphan drug designation from the FDA[1][7][9][11][12].
