Overview

LPCN 2101 is an orally delivered, endogenous neuroactive steroid (NAS) candidate being developed by Lipocine for the treatment of epilepsy and associated mood disorders. It functions as a positive allosteric modulator (PAM) of the gamma-aminobutyric acid type A (GABAA) receptor, enhancing inhibitory neurotransmission in the central nervous system. The FDA accepted the company's Investigational New Drug (IND) application in July 2022, and Lipocine has advanced the candidate into Phase 2 clinical development, specifically targeting photosensitive epilepsy (PSE). The drug is designed to address unmet needs in epilepsy management, particularly for women of childbearing age, by potentially offering a better safety profile than existing treatments.
