Overview

LPM5260558 is a small molecule P2X7 receptor antagonist under development by Shandong Quanzhong Biopharmaceutical (a subsidiary of Luye Pharma Group) for the treatment of acute ischemic stroke (AIS). The P2X7 receptor is an ATP-gated ion channel primarily expressed on microglia in the central nervous system; its activation triggers the release of pro-inflammatory cytokines like IL-1β and IL-18, contributing to neuroinflammation and secondary brain injury after an ischemic event. By inhibiting P2X7, LPM5260558 aims to provide neuroprotection and improve functional recovery. It is currently being evaluated in Phase 1 clinical trials for safety, tolerability, and pharmacokinetics in healthy volunteers.
