Overview
LPMX-2 is a folate-targeted PEGylated liposomal mitomycin-C lipid-based prodrug developed by LipoMedix for the treatment of superficial bladder cancer. It is designed for intravesical delivery and targets folate receptors on cancer cells to enhance drug accumulation in tumors. The formulation leverages PEGylated liposomal technology to improve the pharmacokinetics and reduce systemic toxicity of mitomycin-C. As of July 2024, LPMX-2 is in preclinical or early clinical development (Phase I) for bladder cancer[1][2][5]. The mechanism of action involves alkylating DNA and inhibiting DNA synthesis, consistent with mitomycin-C’s established cytostatic effects[5].
