Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**LPRI-424** is a prolonged-release, fixed-dose combined oral hormonal contraceptive containing **dienogest** and **ethinylestradiol** in a 24 active-tablet/4 placebo-tablet regimen. Dienogest is a progestogen with antiandrogenic activity, while ethinylestradiol is an estrogen; together they suppress gonadotropin signaling and ovulation, alter cervical mucus, and produce endometrial changes that prevent pregnancy. The formulation was developed by Chemo Research and affiliated Insud Pharma/Exeltis organizations and has been studied in Phase III trials for oral contraception and for treatment of polycystic ovary syndrome-associated hirsutism. It has been marketed in Europe under brands including Kelsee and Kelzyn.
