Overview

LPRI-CF113 is a small molecule drug candidate containing the synthetic progestin drospirenone, currently under development by ASKA Pharmaceutical for the treatment of dysmenorrhea. Drospirenone is unique among synthetic progestins because its pharmacological profile closely resembles natural progesterone, exhibiting potent progestogenic activity alongside antimineralocorticoid and antiandrogenic properties. In the treatment of dysmenorrhea, LPRI-CF113 works by suppressing ovulation and inhibiting the proliferation of the endometrium, which leads to a reduction in the synthesis of prostaglandins—the primary mediators of painful uterine contractions. As of early 2026, the compound is in Phase 1/2 clinical trials in Japan.
