Drug intelligence / Profile preview
LPT-CBD is a specialized formulation of cannabidiol (CBD) that utilizes liposomal or nanoencapsulation technology to improve the drug's pharmacokinetic profile. Developed by companies such as Innocan Pharma and Aphios Pharma, the LPT-CBD platform (Liposome Platform Technology) is designed to provide a sustained-release delivery system, addressing the low bioavailability and rapid metabolism associated with conventional CBD administration. Innocan Pharma is advancing LPT-CBD in the preclinical stage for the treatment of epilepsy and chronic pain management, utilizing injectable liposomes to maintain therapeutic levels of CBD over extended periods. Aphios Pharma has investigated a similar nanoencapsulated CBD formulation, designated APH-1501, in clinical trials for reducing cravings in patients with opioid dependence. By encapsulating CBD within lipid-based vesicles, LPT-CBD aims to enhance the stability and targeted delivery of the cannabinoid to the central nervous system.
