Drug intelligence / Profile preview
LR-interferon beta is a preclinical, engineered probiotic therapy in development by ChromoLogic for the treatment of gastrointestinal acute radiation syndrome (GI-ARS). [3] The drug consists of the bacterium *Limosilactobacillus reuteri*, which has been genetically modified to produce and release interferon-beta (IFN-β) within the gastrointestinal tract. [2] This localized delivery of IFN-β engages its corresponding signaling pathway to provide intestinal radioprotection and mitigation. [2, 4] Preclinical data indicates that LR-interferon beta preserves intestinal stem cells and improves the integrity of the intestinal barrier following radiation, ultimately enhancing survival.
