Overview

LR20011 (also known as GEN-001) is an orally administered live biotherapeutic product (LBP) consisting of a specific strain of *Lactococcus lactis*. Developed by AVEO Oncology (an LG Chem company) in partnership with Genome & Co, LR20011 is designed to modulate the gut microbiome to enhance the host's immune response against solid tumors. The mechanism of action involves the stimulation of immune cells, such as dendritic cells and T cells, and the induction of pro-inflammatory cytokines like IL-12 and IFN-gamma, thereby potentially overcoming resistance to immune checkpoint inhibitors. It is currently being evaluated in clinical trials for various solid tumors, including gastric cancer and biliary tract cancer, typically in combination with PD-1/PD-L1 inhibitors like avelumab or pembrolizumab.
